Rapid Adoption of AI has been Disruptive

I've had numerous conversations with both design and engineering leaders lately, and the topic of AI inevitably comes up, which leads to the question: How does the design system remain relevant?, Product teams can generate their own components using AI, why would we need to invest in our design system?

Another question arises as well: if AI can understand and work with any system, do we really need to invest as much in our design system as we used to? Is it still worth the effort to keep things clean and consistent, or can we let the system get a little messy since "AI will figure it out"?

I'm a big fan of backpacking: hiking to a remote location to camp under the stars with all my gear in a backpack.

In recent years I've become enamored with ultra-light backpacking.

Ultra-light backpacking is about reducing the weight of your gear as much as possible, making it easier to hike. Here's how ultra-light backpacking has changed my approach design systems, making it easier to move forward faster.
